Consumer-savvy companies like Car Max and H&R Block aim to take the hassles out of everything from car buying to tax preparation. Now an organization steps forward to take the guess work out of selecting the right business consultants too.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE, NC – February 2004 – Responding to consumer demand, more and more industries are providing a “certified quality inspection” of one kind or another. Quality assurance has now made its way to business consulting too, and why not? Companies often have a lot riding on the guidance these experts provide. One organization has set out to increase consumer confidence with a new industry “seal of approval”.

The Society for Advancement in Consulting was the brainchild of SAC Founder and CEO Alan Weiss, Ph.D., author of Million Dollar Consulting and The Ultimate Consultant. “I’ve always believed it to be both a blessing and a curse that consulting has been so totally unregulated,” Weiss says, “The ‘easy entry’ has provided highly skilled entrepreneurs with the opportunity to quickly launch and sustain high-growth business, but has also allowed mediocrity (and, unfortunately at times, incompetence) to freely enter the field.”

The Society for Advancement in Consulting, founded in 2003, was created to recognize independent business consultants who have consistently demonstrated professional conduct, breadth of experience, and client satisfaction. Weiss says his intent was to “pay back the profession and professionals” who have provided him with “such a wonderful career.” Qualifying members agree to practice within a given paradigm and in turn, reap the benefits of communion with other high level consultants from around the country.

Society for Advancement in Consulting membership reaches Triangle.

Tom Stevens, President of Esquare Leadership LLC, a triangle-based business consulting firm, has been distinguished as the first SAC member in North Carolina. “I’m proud to be able to display the SAC designation,” says Stevens, “and I’m thrilled that my association with other leading practitioners will bring additional knowledge and value to my clients.”
