 10 Principles That Guide My Approach to
Executive Coaching

◊  Build On Strengths - more energy should be put into building on strengths than mitigating weaknesses (unless weaknesses are making the "wheels fall off").

◊  Objectives Drive the Process - leadership development (and almost anything else) should be designed around how to achieve desired outcomes.

◊  Seek Alignment - one of the best paths to meaningful gains in performance is establishing congruence between personal objectives and those of the organization.

◊  View People Wholistically - regardless of where you start, lasting change ultimately must integrate changes in thinking, in feeling, and in behavior.

◊  Make Use Of Information from Multiple Sources - General research (e.g. Gallup Organization's 12Q), individual data (instruments, 360° assessments), and subjective observations all can meaningfully inform the coaching process.

◊  Cultivate, Not Operate - people and organizations are more like a garden than a machine - there is no magic lever that causes change in people (or organizations), but there are multiple ways to influence conditions in which change can occur.

◊  Learning is Lifelong - exploring new pursuits and reviewing well-established basics both add value to development.

◊  Do What Works - and what works in one setting could be very different from what works in another.

◊  Do No Harm.

◊  Remember to Have Fun.

 Your Executive Coach
for
Personal Innovation and Leadership Savvy

Coaching is a process that helps turn your unrealized potential into achievement. An effective coach is your team player whose primary purpose is to enhance your competencies for personal and organizational benefit.

Coaching with Tom can help develop and cultivate:

Influence
improve interpersonal communication, presentation skills, networking, and strategic thinking so you can maximize your leadership talent and accelerate your success;

Innovative Thinking
a sounding board to stimulate divergent thinking, focus influence, and spark creativity to foster personal and organizational innovation;

Change
learn how to raise the bar on performance, whether seeking to replace attitudes and behaviors that are career limiting, or desiring to enhance your personal best practices;

Leadership and Management Development
accelerate development of skill and knowledge in management best practices, leadership action and presence, making the best use of your role as executive or expert, and developing desired leadership qualities.

How Does Coaching Work?

Coaching can be likened to holding up a mirror, so you can better see yourself and take action accordingly. Conversations with your coach helps you clarify your objectives, make a perceptual 'reality-check', seek deeper insight, focus on important actions, and apply available tools and talents to reach your goals.

Our coaching process can be augmented by 360° Evaluations, organizational climate and culture surveys, and individual assessments using instruments such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Standard coaching engagements with Tom include scheduled meeting times plus unlimited telephone and email access.

One size does not fit all…

We tailor a coaching process fit your needs and learning style, including flexible scheduling and the availability of unlimited telephone and email access so you have coaching when you need it. Coaching engagements with Tom are typically arranged on a project fee (so you aren't charged every time you speak with your coach), and may also be structured to include any of the tools listed below as useful to meet your objectives.
